Progress Summary: May 01 to May 31, 2022 

  • Capitol Paving of DC. Inc. continued construction activities on Pennsylvania Ave SE, between 2nd street and 14th street, for the installation of streetlight, traffic signals and incidentals work.

  • The work hours are 9:30 am to 3:30 pm—Monday to Friday. During milling and paving operations, the following hours apply: EB 08:00 am to 4:00 pm; WB 9:00 am to 7:00 pm; Saturdays 08:00 am to 5:00 pm.

  • The contractor has set up and placed the approved MOT signs before starting the daily construction activity, They are inspected for compliance.

  • Street parking is restricted in the work zone, and a temporary travel-lane closure begins at 9:30 am. (Except during milling and paving operations). At the end of each workday, temporary signs and traffic control devices are removed to allow traffic to operate in normal conditions.

  • Tree guards are installed for the protection of the trees.

  • Plastic barrier fences are used on the sidewalk side, and drums are on the roadway for the safety of the pedestrians, bicycle, and vehicular traffic.

  • The full width of the sidewalk is available for pedestrians and businesses during construction.

  • Flaggers are assigned to assist the pedestrians and vehicular traffic at the intersection(s).

  • All underground work, streetlight traffic signal and traffic cabinets foundations, streetlight and signal poles have been completed.

  • Installation of overhead hardware for streetlight and traffic signal is in progress, completed up to 10th Street.

  • Street light cable installation has been completed

  • Traffic signal cable installation has been completed

  • Cable splicing 41 manholes have been completed, need to complete 80

  • Feed between PEPCO manholes and manholes has been completed. PEPCO needs to energize.

  • #4 and #2 cable installation has been completed

  • Fiber optic cable installation has been completed

  • 50 Pair communication cable installation has been completed

  • 100 Pair installation will be completed in the first week of July, 2022

  • The major work left to perform:

  • Electrical Work:

    • Cable splicing Approximately 80 manholes left

    • Feed between PEPCO and manholes PEPCO needs to energize.

    • Overhead fixtures from 10th Street to 14th Street

    • Cabinet installation.

  • Civil Work:

    • Milling and paving and line striping is ongoing, and it’s estimated to be completed mid-July, 2022

    • Removal of existing Streetlight and traffic signals and their foundations

    • Sidewalk repair

    • Punch list
