Progress Summary: May 17 - May 21, 2021

  • Capitol paving of DC. Inc. has begun the construction activity on Pennsylvania Ave, SE, eastbound from 2nd St intersection towards 4th St. 

  • The work hours are 9:30 am to 3:30 pm—Monday to Friday. 

  • The contractor has set up and placed the approved MOT signs before starting the daily construction activity. 

  • Street parking is restricted in the work zone, and a temporary travel-lane closure begins at 9:30 am. At the end of each workday, temporary signs and traffic control devices are removed to allow traffic to operate in normal conditions. 

  • Tree guards are installed for protection of the trees. 

  • Plastic barrier fences are used on the sidewalk side, and drums are on the roadway for safety of the pedestrian and vehicular traffic. 

  • The full width of the sidewalk is available for pedestrians and businesses during construction. 

  • Flaggers are assigned to assist the pedestrians and vehicular traffic at the intersection(s). 

  • The work activities include road saw cutting, trench excavation, excavation for utility manholes, conduit installation, backfilling, road base, and temporary asphalt. 

  • The installation of the utility manholes and underground electric conduit is complete on Pennsylvania Ave, on the east side between 2nd and 3rd St. The road is temporarily paved and open for traffic. 

  • The manhole and underground conduit installation work on the east side of Pennsylvania Ave between 3rd and 4th St is expected to be completed this week (5/24/21 to 5/28/21). The work on the west side of Pennsylvania Ave will follow after completion of this. 

  • The installation of the proposed streetlight and traffic light at the intersection will start after completion of the underground conduit and manhole installation. 

  • The contractor is not working on Monday (5/31/21), Memorial Day.
