Progress Summary: June 14 - June 20, 2021

Capitol paving of DC. Inc. continues the construction activity on west Bound Pennsylvania Ave, SE, eastbound from 4th St intersection towards 2nd St.

The work hours are 9:30 am to 3:30 pm—Monday to Friday.

The contractor has set up and placed the approved MOT signs before starting the daily construction activity.

Street parking is restricted in the work zone, and a temporary travel-lane closure begins at 9:30 am. At the end of each workday, temporary signs and traffic control devices are removed to allow traffic to operate in normal conditions.

Tree guards are installed for protection of the trees.

Plastic barrier fences are used on the sidewalk side, and drums are on the roadway for safety of the pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

The full width of the sidewalk is available for pedestrians and businesses during construction.

Flaggers are assigned to assist the pedestrians and vehicular traffic at the intersection(s).

The work activities include road saw cutting, trench excavation, excavation for utility manholes, conduit installation, backfilling, road base, and temporary asphalt. Foundation work for streetlights.

The installation of the utility manholes and underground electric conduit is complete on Pennsylvania Ave, on the east side between 2nd and 4th St. The road is temporarily paved and open for traffic.

The manhole and underground conduit installation work on the east side of Pennsylvania Ave between 2nd and 4th St is completed. The work on the west side of Pennsylvania Ave has started.

The installation of the proposed streetlight and traffic light at the intersection will start after completion of the underground conduit and manhole installation.

An unmarked gas main in front of 308 Pennsylvania Ave was damaged during the trench excavation on 06/08/21, which interrupted the gas supply to the restaurant. Washington Gas was notified immediately, and the gas main was restored on 06/10/21.

All PVC ductwork, streetlight and traffic signal foundation work, and utility manhole construction is coordinated with the DDOT-streetlight and traffic division before concrete placement.

Compaction tests and concrete tests (air content, slump) are performed daily before the installation of road base. Concrete cylinders are also made and delivered to DDOT- QAQC lab.
