Progress Summary: January 1 - January 31, 2022

Capitol Paving of DC. Inc. continued construction activities on Pennsylvania Ave SE, between 2nd street and 14th street, for the installation of streetlight, traffic signals and incidentals work.

The work hours are 9:30 am to 3:30 pm—Monday to Friday.

The contractor has set up and placed the approved MOT signs before starting the daily construction activity.
-
Street parking is restricted in the work zone, and a temporary travel-lane closure begins at 9:30 am. At the end of each workday, temporary signs and traffic control devices are removed to allow traffic to operate in normal conditions.

Tree guards are installed for the protection of the trees.

Plastic barrier fences are used on the sidewalk side, and drums are on the roadway for the safety of the pedestrians, bicycle, and vehicular traffic.

The full width of the sidewalk is available for pedestrians and businesses during construction.

Flaggers are assigned to assist the pedestrians and vehicular traffic at the intersection(s).

The work activities include road saw cutting, trench excavation, excavation for utility manholes, conduit installation, backfilling, road base, and temporary asphalt. Foundation work for streetlights, stranded wire grounded and stranded wire of different gauges.

Capitol Paving continue construction activities on Pennsylvania Ave SE between 6th Street and 7th Street both EB and WB and 11th Street and partial at 14th Street

All underground work has been completed at Pennsylvania Avenue SE mainline from 2nd Street to 14th Street. All underground work was completed at the 600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue both east bound and west bound.

Intersection work continues at Pennsylvania Ave and 12th Street excavating and installing duct banks and laterals and temporary restorations.

Intersection work continues at Pennsylvania Ave and 13th Street intersection installing SL, PP/TS, TC foundations, relocating poles, installing temporary bases

Concrete works base for utility cuts, install streetlight and traffic signal poles; test pits will be excavated before excavations near marked areas

All steel plates have been removed from travel lanes

Jaxson Point installed stranded electrical traffic signal cable, shielded stranded electrical traffic signal cable, and stranded ground wire at Pennsylvania Ave and intersections with 6th Street, 2nd Street and 3rd Street

Jaxson Point furnished and installed Twin 20 steel/cast iron poles

All TTC Signs at WZ have been inspected to ensure compliance.

Inspected all Tree Protection wire fencing installation for compliance along Pennsylvania Ave. SE from 2nd St. to 14th St. EB and WB.

All MOT placement along Pennsylvania Ave. SE from 6th Street to 13th Street was monitored and inspected for compliance.

Monitored survey of structure layout for manholes, streetlight, cabinets, signal poles, lamp posts on Pennsylvania Ave. from 7th Street to 13th Street EB and WB.

All saw cuts and excavations for conduit trenches, streetlight and signal pole structures, laterals, and manholes were monitored.

All soil and GAB backfill, and compaction were monitored for compliance.

Monitored PCC placement for base utility cuts. Tested concrete and cast cylinders as needed.

Monitored PCC placement for encasing conduit. Tested concrete and cast cylinders as needed.

Monitored installation of Wheelchair-bicycle ramps for ADA compliance

Monitored installation of streetlight, signal and cabinet foundations, steel transformer bases, and manholes

Monitored removal of streetlight poles

Monitored relocation of traffic signal poles from one foundation to another

Monitoring relocation of traffic signal head on to temporary pole assembly

Monitored paving marking and striping activities at Pennsylvania Ave SE and 2nd Street intersection

Monitored light pole and signal pole installation

Monitored all work at 600 block of Pennsylvania Ave WB and EB lay out, manhole excavation and installation, duct work, cabinet, traffic signal and light pole foundations, compaction of soil and GAB placed and PCC for utility cuts and structural concrete.

Monitored Capitol Paving saw cuts at the 600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, ensuring seating areas were kept clean and clear of dust and debris.
