Progress Summary: April 01 to April 30, 2022

Capitol Paving of DC. Inc. continued construction activities on Pennsylvania Ave SE, between 2nd street and 14th street, for the installation of streetlight, traffic signals and incidentals work.

The work hours are 9:30 am to 3:30 pm—Monday to Friday.

The contractor has set up and placed the approved MOT signs before starting the daily construction activity, They are inspected for compliance.
-
Street parking is restricted in the work zone, and a temporary travel-lane closure begins at 9:30 am. At the end of each workday, temporary signs and traffic control devices are removed to allow traffic to operate in normal conditions.

Tree guards are installed for the protection of the trees.

Plastic barrier fences are used on the sidewalk side, and drums are on the roadway for the safety of the pedestrians, bicycle, and vehicular traffic.

The full width of the sidewalk is available for pedestrians and businesses during construction.

Flaggers are assigned to assist the pedestrians and vehicular traffic at the intersection(s).

All underground work, streetlight traffic signal and traffic cabinets foundations, streetlight and signal poles have been completed.

Installation of overhead hardware for streetlight and traffic signal is in progress

Overhead hardware installation has been completed up to 6th Street intersection.

Traffic signal cable installation is 20% to 30% complete, #4, #7, #8 and #10 splicing up to 13th Street going up.

Fiber optic cable installation is 90% complete

50 Pair communication cable installation has been completed

100 Pair installation has not started.

Work on streetlight conductor cable twin 20 at various locations is ongoing

Splicing manholes of the 115 manholes in the project is ongoing.

Milling and paving is scheduled to start May 16th, 2022, but will be dependent on a meeting with the next upcoming bus and bicycle lane project

The removal of seating area barricades in the street parking lane at 600 block falls under the Mayor’s office jurisdiction; this project will leave the barricades in place and work around them.

All Tree Protection wire fencing installation has been inspected for compliance along Pennsylvania Ave. SE from 2nd St. to 14th St. EB and WB.

Installation of communications cable and fiber optic cable, traffic signal cable at Pennsylvania Ave SE from 2nd Street to 9th Street is monitored.

Installation of traffic signal heads, pedestrian signal units and control, LED electronic sign on poles at Pennsylvania Ave SE and 2nd, 3rd, and 10th Street intersections is monitored.

Manhole splicing from 2nd, Street to 10th Street is monitored.

Monitored tree pruning operations, started April 19th, 2022, and completed April 23rd, 2022

The major work left to perform:

TC installation, connection from PEPCO to new installed MH and TC, milling, and paving of Pennsylvania Ave, street striping and marking and traffic sign, removal of existing pole, removal of existing pole foundations, removal of TS and ST foundations, sidewalk restoration, and relocating fixtures.
